NEW ZEALAND STRONG WOOL
We use New Zealand Strong Wool in all of our natural fibre composites and contrary to their name, the New Zealand Merino company also supply this coarse fibre.
Wool is classified by the thickness of its fibres. This thickness is measured in microns; one micron is equal to 0.001 mm. The lower the number, the finer the micron and the softer the wool. While we work with wool on a daily basis and know about all the different types of sheep and the wool they produce, you might need a bit of help!
Here's an easy way to know the difference
MERINO WOOL
12-25 MICRON
Finer wool fibres that are soft and luxurious. Super fine merino wool fibres are used in next-to-skin clothing and suiting, while fine and mid-micron fibres are woven in to activewear and classic fashion.
STRONG WOOL
35+ MICRON
This robust wool fibre is tough and durable. It is most often made into luxurious and comfortable, hard-wearing carpets, but we're using nature's miracle fibre in new and innovative ways.
